The Consolidated PBY Catalina was arguably the greatest flying boat ever built. With extraordinary range, endurance and the ability to operate from water as well as land, Catalinas served across the world in roles ranging from maritime patrol and air-sea rescue to transport and reconnaissance.
More than 80 years after she was built, Miss Pick Up still flies.
She is the last airworthy Catalina operating in Europe and one of only a handful remaining worldwide. More unusually still, she continues to operate from water — something very few surviving Catalinas now do.
That is what makes Miss Pick Up special. She isn’t simply a preserved example of an extraordinary aircraft. She can still take to the water, rise into the air and demonstrate what the Catalina was designed to do.
From water and land to the sky.
